Much of the outdoor work on Dunedin properties starts with the ground itself — levelling a section, fixing a drainage problem, or building a driveway that will hold up through winter. These three services are closely related, and we handle all of them with equipment that is sized for residential work.
The right machine for residential earthmoving
Our 2-tonne digger is the right machine for most residential earthmoving. It is compact enough to fit through standard gates and work in confined spaces alongside houses, garages, and established gardens, but it has genuine digging capacity with rock, tilt, and grab buckets for different tasks. For larger jobs — moving significant volumes of soil or working on bigger sites — we also have access to larger diggers when required.
Ground levelling and contouring is common work across Dunedin. The city's terrain is characteristically steep and uneven, and many residential sections need earthwork before they are usable for lawns, gardens, sheds, parking areas, or other landscaping. We carry out cut-and-fill work, create level terraces on sloping sites, build up low-lying areas, and shape ground to direct water away from buildings and toward appropriate drainage.
Site preparation for new builds, extensions, and outbuildings is also part of what we do. This includes stripping topsoil, excavating to level, and preparing the base for whatever comes next — whether that is a lawn, a driveway, a paved area, or a retaining structure.
Driveway construction, repairs and re-gravelling
We construct, repair, and re-gravel driveways and off-street parking areas for residential properties across Dunedin. For new driveways, the work typically involves excavating to the required depth, preparing and compacting the base, installing drainage where needed, and laying and compacting gravel to a finished surface. Getting the base right is the most important part of any driveway — without proper preparation and drainage, gravel migrates, potholes form, and water pools on the surface.
For existing driveways, we carry out repairs including regrading, pothole filling, and topping up with fresh gravel. Dunedin's wet climate and winter freeze-thaw cycles break down gravel surfaces over time, so periodic re-gravelling is a normal part of driveway maintenance. We supply and deliver gravel by tipper truck and handle the full job from start to finish.
Off-street parking is increasingly sought after in Dunedin, particularly on older residential properties that were built without provision for multiple vehicles. We prepare and construct parking areas on suitable parts of a section, including levelling, base preparation, gravelling, and where necessary, dealing with the earthmoving required to create a usable space on a sloping site.
